Current Research in Medical Sciences (CRMS) is proud to publish the results of researches in the field of "Health and Medical Sciences". Dear authors are requested to consider the following points before editing and sending their articles.
Instruction for Authors
In advance, thank you for choosing the Current Research in Medical Sciences journal to submit your manuscript. This instruction will guide you stepwise through the submission process, peer review, production, and publication. Please take time to read and prepare your manuscript accordingly. All manuscripts submitted to the journal must follow the following instruction, and any failure to the relevant section might cause unnecessary delays in the review and production process.
Types of paper
Current Research in Medical Sciences journal publishes Research Articles (Original Article), Review Articles, Case Reports, Brief Report, Letter to Editor, and Editorial on behalf of Babol University of Medical Sciences. When making your submission, please make sure that you select the appropriate article type from the list of options. For special issues, the authors should also ensure that they select the special issue article type from this list.
Original Articles
Regular original articles should contain title, running title, abstract (with a maximum of 250 words), keywords (3-5 words), introduction, methods, results and discussion, conclusion, acknowledgment, and references. Such articles should not exceed 3000 words (excluding abstract, tables, and references). In general, the number of tables and figures should not collectively exceed seven, and any exceptions need to be approved by the editors. Review articles are also welcome.
Review Article
A review article should interpret a particular scientific subject accurately and comprehensively from different perspectives and present a new and reasonable conclusion with correct theorizations. At least 40 authoritative and preferably new references should be used. Narrative articles include abstract, introduction, and titles. Systematic and Meta-analysis articles should include materials and methods, results and discussion, and conclusions. At least 3 relevant references from the author(s) should be used. These articles may contain a maximum of 4000 words (excluding abstract and references).
Case Report
If confronted with extremely rare patients or complications, authors can report the cases. The articles should include abstract, keywords, introduction, case report, discussion and conclusion, acknowledgment, tables, and references. The abstract should contain a maximum of 200 words and the main text should not contain more than 1500 words (excluding references).
Brief Report
The structure of these articles is similar to research articles, except that research results and their interpretation are more concise. These articles should not exceed 1500 words (excluding abstracts and references).
Letter to the Editor
This is a scientific critique or comment on a particular subject in the field of health and medical sciences. It should not contain more than 500 words (excluding references) and 5 references. This article should be written in concise English. If it is related to another article in the journal, it will be sent to the corresponding author and if the author(s) are willing to write a response, their response will be published simultaneously.
Editorial
These articles should be by the editor(s) or journal editorial committee. These articles may contain a maximum of 800 words (excluding references) and 10 references and contain images or tables.
Please ensure that the length of your paper is in harmony with your research area and with the science presented. For manuscripts exceeding the recommended length, Authors can provide supporting information and this material will be made available online.
Submission checklist
The authors can use the following list to carry out a final check of their submission before sending it to the journal for review. Please check the relevant section in this "Instruction for Authors" for more details.

- The manuscript should be “spell checked” and “grammar checked”. The use of spelling and grammar check of Microsoft Word is highly recommended.
- All references mentioned in the “Reference List” are cited in the text, and vice versa.
- Obtaining permission is necessary for the use of copyrighted materials from other sources (including the Internet).
- Journal policies detailed in this instruction have been reviewed.
- Referee suggestions and contact details provided, based on journal requirements.
Submission declaration and verification (cover letter)
Submission of a manuscript to this journal implies that the work has neither been published before nor be under consideration for publication in another journal (except in the form of an abstract, a published lecture, or academic thesis). Additionally, its publication is approved by all authors and tacitly or explicitly by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out. If accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English, Persian, or in any other languages, including electronically without the written consent of the copyright holder.
Use of inclusive language
Manuscripts should make no assumptions about the beliefs or commitments of any reader, should contain nothing that might imply that one individual is superior to another on the grounds of race, sex, culture, or any other characteristic, and should use inclusive language throughout. Authors should ensure that writing is free from bias, for instance by using 'he or she', 'his/her' instead of 'he' or 'his', and by making use of job titles that are free of stereotyping (e.g. 'chairperson' instead of 'chairman' and 'flight attendant' instead of 'stewardess').
Changes to authorship
It is expected that the authors consider carefully the list and order of the authors before submitting their manuscript at the time of the original submission. It should be noted that any addition, deletion, or rearrangement of the author names in the authorship list should be made only before the manuscript has been accepted, of course, after approval by the journal's Editor. If such changes are requested by the authors, the Editor must receive a form from the corresponding author containing: (a) the reason for the change in the author list and (b) written confirmation (e-mail, letter) from all authors, agreeing with the addition, removal or rearrangement. In the case of the addition or removal of authors, a confirmation letter from the author being added or removed is necessary.
Role of the funding source
The authors are requested to identify the responsible authorities who provided the financial support for conducting the research and/or preparation of the manuscript and to briefly describe the role of the sponsor(s), if any, in study design, in the collection, analysis, interpretation of data, in the writing of the report, and in the decision to submit the manuscript for publication. If the funding source(s) had no such involvement, then this should be stated.
Language of the manuscript
Please write your text in good English, American or British, but not a mixture of both.
Subscription
- All accepted manuscripts are published freely by the journal on behalf of Babol University of Medical Sciences and are made freely available to all readers throughout the universe.
- No open access publication fee is requested from the authors.

Referees
All submitted manuscripts must include a list of three suggested reviewers. Please include the names and contact information (including email addresses) for the 3 suggested reviewers. Typically two of these should be from universities or departments other than those of the authors. Please note that this is a mandatory element of your submission and the Editorial Office cannot locate reviewers on your behalf. Referring to the reference list of the manuscript can help the authors to suggest potential experts in the field.
New Submissions Preparation
Submission to this journal proceeds completely online and you will be guided stepwise through the creation and uploading of your files. The figures and tables of the manuscript should contain high enough quality for reviewing. Please note that individual figure files larger than 10 MB must be uploaded separately.
Formatting requirements
All manuscripts must contain the essential elements needed to convey your manuscript; for example, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgements, References, Artworks (Figures), and Tables with appropriate captions. If your manuscript includes any videos and/or other supplementary material, this should be included in your initial submission for peer review purposes.
Divide the article into clearly defined sections. Please ensure your manuscript has consecutive line numbering - this is an essential peer review requirement.
Figures and tables embedded in the text
Please ensure the figures and the tables included in the single file are placed next to the relevant text in the manuscript, rather than at the bottom or the top of the file. The corresponding caption should be placed directly below the figure or above the table.
Peer review
All submitted manuscripts will be initially assessed by the editor for suitability for the journal. The suitable manuscripts, which are relevant to the scope of the journal, are then typically sent to a minimum of three independent expert reviewers to evaluate the scientific quality of the manuscript. The editor is responsible for the final decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of articles. The editor's decision is final.
Preparation of the manuscript
- The manuscript should be submitted in Word format with 1.5 cm line spacing, A4 size, single column, and 2.5 cm margin on each side.
- Use a normal, plain font (e.g., 12-point Times New Roman) for text.
- All pages must be numbered, beginning with the abstract, using the automatic page numbering function of the Word processor.
- All lines must be numbered, preferably continuously throughout the entire manuscript.
- Use the table function, not spreadsheets, to create tables.
- Use the equation editor or MathType software for equations.
- Keep the layout of the text as simple as possible.
- To avoid unnecessary errors, the authors are strongly advised to use the “spell-check” and “grammar-check” functions of their Word processor.
Save your file in the DOCX format (Word 2007 or higher) or doc format (older Word versions) and then submit it.
Manuscript structure
Essential information for the title page
Title: Concise and informative. Titles are often used in information-retrieval systems. It is better to avoid abbreviations and formulas in the title. The recommended font and size is Times New Roman 14.
Author names and affiliations: Please clearly indicate the given name(s) and family name(s) of each author and check that all names are accurately spelled. Present the authors' affiliation addresses (where the actual work was done) below the names. Indicate all affiliations with a lower-case superscript number immediately after the author's name and in front of the appropriate address. Provide the full postal address of the corresponding author and, if available, the e-mail address of each author and the 16-digit ORCID of the author(s). An appropriate running title (maximum 50 characters) should be provided. Use 12-point Times Roman font for author(s) name(s) and Times New Roman 10 for authors’ affiliations.
Corresponding author: Clearly indicate who will handle correspondence at all stages of reviewing and publication, and post-publication. This responsibility includes answering any future queries about Methodology and Materials. Ensure that the e-mail address is given and that contact details are kept up to date by the corresponding author.
Abstract: Please provide a concise and factual structured abstract. The abstract should include background and objective, methods, findings, and conclusion. In addition, non-standard or uncommon abbreviations should be avoided, but if essential, they must be defined at their first mention in the abstract itself.
Keywords: Immediately after the abstract, provide keywords. These keywords will be used for indexing purposes and should be according to the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH).
Headings
The authors should provide not more than three levels of headings. Main headings should be typed in bold letters at the left of the page. Secondary headings (in bold and italic letters) and third-level headings (in italic letters only) should also be at the left of the page. The numbering of paragraphs and sections of the manuscript is not necessary.
Introduction
In this section, after noting a brief scientific background of the subject of study, the hypothesis and aim of the study should be stated briefly. Findings or conclusions should not be mentioned here. Fully relevant references should only be used.
Material and methods
To enable the experiments to be reproduced, full experimental details must be provided. It is mandatory to give formal assurance that any study involving humans or experimental animals was conducted in accordance with national and institutional guidelines for the protection of human subjects and animal welfare. Such manuscripts will not be considered unless this information is supplied. Studied population, sampling method, and samples size (for instance, patients or laboratory animals) including control groups and witness groups should be stated clearly and accurately. Inclusion and exclusion criteria (if present) should be mentioned. Obtaining informed consent (if present) should be noted. In clinical trials, the confirmation of the research ethics committee of the related organization should be mentioned. Statistical methods should be illustrated in full detail so that the findings can be reasonable and understandable for the readers. The name of the statistical software should be brought up. Statistical tests should be stated for the variables of the study.
Results/Discussion
Results should be clear and concise. Discussion should explore the significance of the results of the work, not repeat them. A combined Results and Discussion section is often appropriate. Avoid extensive citations and discussion of previously published literature.
Conclusions
The main conclusions of the study may be presented in a short conclusions section, which may stand alone or form a subsection of the Results and Discussion section.
Appendices
If there is more than one appendix, they should be identified as A, B, etc. Formulae and equations in the appendices should have separate numbering such as Eq. (A.1), Eq. (A.2), etc.; in a subsequent appendix, Eq. (B.1) and so on. Similarly for tables and figures: Table A.1; Fig. A.1, etc.
Abbreviations
Abbreviations should be defined at first mention, and make sure consistency of the abbreviations throughout the manuscript.
Acknowledgments
Acknowledgments of people who provided help during the research (e.g., providing language help, writing assistance or proofreading the article, etc.), grants, funds, etc. should be provided in a separate section at the end of the manuscript before the references and do not include them on the title page.
Units
Follow internationally accepted rules and conventions: use the system international (SI) of units. If other units are mentioned, please give their equivalent in SI. Especially please note, the values reported on research papers should be limited to 3 significant figures, unless required otherwise.
Math formula
The math equations should be submitted as editable text, not as images. The present simple formula is in line with normal text. The use of the Microsoft Equation Editor or Math-type software is recommended.
Artworks
Electronic artwork
General points
- The authors should make sure that their original artworks have uniform letters and sizes.
- Preferred fonts: Arial (or Helvetica), Times New Roman (or Times), Symbol, Courier.
- The artworks must be numbered according to their sequence in the text.
- Use a logical naming convention for your artwork files.
- Indicate per figure if it is a single, 1.5, or 2-column fitting image.
- For Word submissions only, the authors can provide figures and their captions, and tables as a separate file.
- Please note that individual figure files larger than 10 MB must be provided in separate source files.
Formats
Regardless of the application used, when your electronic artwork is finalized, please “save as” or convert the images to one of the following formats (note the resolution requirements for line drawings, halftones, and line/halftone combinations given below):
- EPS (or PDF): Vector drawings. Embed the font or save the text as 'graphic'.
- TIFF (or JPG): Color or grayscale photographs (halftones): always use a minimum of 300 dpi.
- TIFF (or JPG): Bitmapped line drawings: use a minimum of 1000 dpi.
- TIFF (or JPG): Combinations bitmapped line/half-tone (color or grayscale): a minimum of 500 dpi is required.
Please do not:
- Supply files that are optimized for screen use (e.g., GIF, BMP, PICT, WPG); the resolution is too low.
- Supply files that are too low in resolution.
- Submit graphics that are disproportionately large for the content.
Color artwork
Please make sure that artwork files are in an acceptable format (TIFF (or JPEG), EPS (or PDF), or MS Office files) and with the correct resolution.
Figure captions
Each figure or illustration should have an appropriate caption, describing the figure or illustration briefly. Keep text in the illustrations themselves to a minimum but explain all symbols and abbreviations used.
Text graphics
Text graphics can be embedded in the text at the appropriate position.
References
Reference formatting
References list should be written according to Vancouver style with a few modifications and should be numbered as used in the text within the square bracket. The use of reference manager software including EndNote, Mendeley, or other similar software is highly appreciated. References should be written in English. The references, which are in other languages such as Persian, should be translated to English correctly. Where applicable, author(s) name(s), journal title/book title, chapter title/article title, year of publication, volume number/book chapter, and the pagination must be present. Use of DOI is highly encouraged. The Endnote style of the journal can be downloaded here.
Citation within text
The authors should ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list (and vice versa). We do not recommend the authors to include unpublished results and personal communications in the reference list, but maybe mentioned in the text. If such references are included in the reference list, they should follow the standard reference style of the journal and should include a substitution of the publication date with either "Unpublished results" or "Personal communication". Citation of a reference as "in press" indicates that the item has been accepted for publication.
Indicate all citations in the text by number(s) in square brackets in line with the text. The actual authors can be referred to, but the reference number(s) must always be given.
Example: '..... as demonstrated (1,2). Barnaby and Jones (3) obtained a different result ....'
